Wearable Art Begins Here

Bespoke Kilts & Couture Craft

Every Janus Sinclair kilt is a hand-finished work of couture construction — hidden seams, faced waistbands, and sterling silver kilt pins sourced to reflect the soul of the wearer. Made to measure. Made to last.

No Visible Stitch.
No Compromise.

A handmade kilt is sewn so that no visible stitch betrays its construction. Janus Sinclair adapts this same principle to precision machine tailoring — drawing on deep knowledge of couture garment construction to produce kilts with hidden seams, faced rather than banded waists, and thread matched exactly to each fabric.

Minimal horizontal seaming. No binding shortcuts. A streamlined silhouette free of distraction — designed to be worn belted or pinned, as the wearer prefers.

Couture Principles,
Modern Construction

I

Hidden Seams

Every internal seam is finished and concealed, drawing on the techniques of fine couture tailoring to eliminate bulk and create a clean, refined drape.

II

Faced Waistbands

Rather than banded construction, we face the waist in the kilt fabric itself — for a smooth, unbroken line at the hip that flatters every silhouette.

III

Thread-Matched Seams

Thread is changed for every new fabric to ensure invisible, perfect seams. No shortcuts. No approximations. Precision in every stitch.

IV

Tropical Weight Fabrics

Premium, lightweight high-end fabrics sourced for comfort and movement — ideal for the Florida climate without sacrificing the elegance of the form.

V

Sterling Kilt Pins

Each kilt is finished with a unique sterling silver kilt pin, personally sourced to reflect the personality and interests of the individual client.

VI

Made to Measure

No two clients are the same. Every kilt is cut and constructed to your exact measurements, ensuring a fit that is both functional and genuinely flattering.

A Lifetime of Making

"I have always been a problem solver and a creator. This is simply the next thing I have made."

Janus Sinclair was born from a life spent making — from custom knitwear sold in boutiques, to machine embroidery at mall kiosks, to a hard-won mastery of tailoring that began with a YouTube video and an old sewing machine given by a friend.

After nearly fifteen years away, the founder returned to craft at 63, driven by a love of everything plaid, and a deeply held belief: that everyone can look extraordinary when they wear something made just for them.

Three years of study. Kilt after kilt. Sourcing fabric, studying historical construction, refining technique. What emerged was a kilt unlike any other — part Scottish heritage, part couture atelier, entirely Janus Sinclair.

The Right Cloth Changes Everything

Janus Sinclair draws on an extensive knowledge of tartan tradition and modern fabric innovation. From authentic Scottish tartans to tropical-weight wools and fine fashion plaids, we source fabrics that behave beautifully in the Florida climate while honoring the heritage of the kilt.

We work with each client to select a tartan or plaid that speaks to their heritage, personality, or simply their eye. The cloth is chosen first. Everything else follows.
